Genealogy: the study, discovering of ones ancestors, the investigation or finding out about ones ancestors: their names, births, marriages, and death dates. What were their personalities. What did they do for a living. Where the lived. What kind of live did they lead.. Even what they looked like. And so much more!

Also it can be a record or account of the ones ancestors, who were they, their birth, marriage and death daters, places, their occupations, etc ----A written family history.
